when the wind whispers upon your wings.

upon abandoned strokes of tender,

freshly dewed green behind you.

Find shelter with me in my familiar corners.

Where the rains slide down the peak;

the Rose of Sharon as your shade.

Leave your most precious gift here-

their speckled shells of misted blue.

I’ll nurture them the same as you have for me.

If you must say “goodbye” this day,

can I count on your return at future dawn?

I’ll wait in anticipation by my window due East.

When you took my hand

we walked along your gentle shores.

Your waves swam curiously

across my feet

My coral painted toes leaving tiny imprints

in your ivory speckled sands.

I remember when you gave me your stable knee

to lift me high into your treetop.

You calmed my trembling breath,

as we viewed your chiseled mountains.

Your crimson horizon.

The warmest apple cider glow

illuminating purple salvia.

I stood strong atop your highest branch.

I remember when you used your guiding hands

to lower me down to sturdy ground.

Together we walked in unison.

Left, right, left, right.

We approached a narrow opening

where the smallest beam from the setting sun

still graced the creek

with its glorious melting presence.

You lowered me to my scraped knees.

A drink from your hands;

all I needed to quinch the thirst

of my aching heart.

And as your sunshine said goodbye to me,

You left darkness in its place.

I stood strong and waited

For your loving return.

And then I saw you.

So, I watched.

I watched as you rose upon them.

Your amber sunrise

beaming on their faces.

You took them,

hand in hand,

and they walked upon your shore-

your speckled sand between their toes.

You lifted them into your treetop,

your highest branch.

And as they viewed your tallest mountain-

your snow-covered peaks-

I witnessed your form.

Your soft luminescence never abandoned them.

You never left them in the dark.

And while your light danced

upon their skin,

softly blushing their highest points,

I could only peak quietly,

hiding in the shadows

of the narrow we once found together,

hoping for just one

minute fragment

of your crepuscular rays

to warm me, too.
